With your distinguished tour guide Mr. Mauk

The Journey

We begin with the first Americans, the Flintstones (just kidding), and end with the aftermath of the deadliest war in U.S. History, the Civil War. Along the way we will stop to study Explorers, the Thirteen Colonies, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, our countries westward expansion and more. We have a lot of ground to cover so it is going to be a fast ride. Hang on to your pencils!

The Tools

In order to successfully complete our journey we will have to use a wide variety of tools. Of course you will get to bring your textbook with you, I suggest using it as a pillow or for bedtime stories. We will also be using the computer frequently throughout our journey to research and report on our findings. To help us find our way we will be using maps and atlases. Finally, in order to keep in touch with the rest of the world we will read newspapers and magazines.

Your packing list includes a notebook (a three subject works best), loose-leaf paper, a folder, writing utensils, and colored pencils.

Keeping Up With the Wagon

In order to make our journey as successful as possible everyone has to keep up with the lead wagon. Occasionally, you may miss a day of our journey because you get mauled by a bear or eat some poisonous berries. If something like this happens to you you will be allowed two days to catch up with the wagon for every day that you miss. After that you will be considered late and the wagon will go on without you. L If you hand in a major project late you will receive 80% of your points.

Evaluation

From time to time you will be assessed on your progress in the form of tests, quizzes, projects, assignments and essays. Each assignment will have a point value and your final academic grade will be based on your percentage of the possible points.
